Noita by PaulaMela Noita by PaulaMela

Done in August I believe, during and after my visit to Riga when one of my big brothers still lived there. One night I saw how the moon shined beautifully behind the clouds just like this. I couldn't take a satisfactory picture so... why not draw it instead. With my own touches, of course!
And finally today I scanned it, but before that I added the power lines, to make it less flat and for the contrast to have reality meet fantasy.
Pointillism isn't my thing, though...

i got some doré vibes from the thumbnail (kind of doré-dark meets kikis delivery service). from just a tiny bit of distance, it snaps into the dramatic way he would handle such a sky, with the light shining from behind, or onto clouds telling at least as much of the story as what we can actually see of the moon.

from close up, its all ASGFHDAHTDAGF!!!! O____________O wtfinkhandling? i can see (and have done) making entire illustrations in hatching, and having good control over how stuff looks. pointillism, though, seems to be a beast of its own. its got a very unique way of getting soft focus in ink, but i also imagine it to be quite punishing, especially handling the brighter side of gradients. and theres no lines to rely on!

As always, I don't remember names, but after googling Doré I do remember that guy's works after all. I can see it, I can see it...
While pointillism may look good when handled well, I still prefer cross-hatching. I did a lot corrections with a needle when I changed my mind about what I wanted the clouds to be like.
It's indeed the brighter gradients that are the most challenging...
